What does Walter White have in common with Congress: they are pathological liars.
Like Walter White, politicians lie to get their way; they lie out of habit. Fearing others will try to control them, they control others. Lying keeps people from knowing the truth, and then more lies cover up previous lies: the spin, the newsroom. Political narcissists feel no guilt; lying is a personality trait. Like Walter White, they lie to evade punishment. Lies construct realities, but there’s no satisfaction in the lie itself. Being defensive (attacking the messenger not the message), honesty and loyalty have no value. Like Walter White, pathology is an excuse for a life-time of self-promotion.
